Bayern date Essen, Wolfsburg seek to extend 100% start as Hoffenheim host Leverkusen: Frauen-Bundesliga Week 3 Preview

· Wolfsburg host Nürnberg as they look to extend 100% start to the season

· Hoffenheim date Bayer Leverkusen at home on Monday evening

Reigning champions Bayern Munich will be looking to record their second win of the term when they play guests to SGS Essen at the Stadio Essen on Sunday afternoon.

Coming from a 2-0 win over FC Köln on Monday, having recorded a disappointing 2-2 draw away to Freiburg on Bundesliga opening day, the Bavarians will be looking to quickly impose themselves on the title race. Essen, on the other hand, will be looking to bounce back from a 3-2 defeat away to RB Leipzig last weekend.

Former Chelsea forward Pernille Harder and midfielder Linda Dallmann scored the two goals which secured Bayern’s first full set of points on Monday and the duo will be expected to replicate their form against Essen.

The visitors lie third on the Bundesliga standings with four points from one win and a draw in two contests whilst the hosts lie sixth on three points from one win in the same number of encounters.

Meanwhile, former champions Wolfsburg will be looking to make it three wins in three outings when they host Bundesliga newcomers Nürnberg on Friday evening.

The hosts were 4-2 winners over Eintracht Frankfurt in their second Bundesliga match of the term last weekend and will be looking to keep the momentum going with another win at the AOK Stadion whilst the hosts suffered a 6-0 thumping at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen away last weekend.

Forwards Alexandra Popp and Ewa Pajor, midfielder Lena Oberdorf and defender Joelle Wedemeyer were on the scoresheet in their 4-2 win over Frankfurt last weekend and the quartet will be looking to repeat the feat when they play the league newcomers on Friday.

Wolfsburg are second on the standings on six points from two wins whilst Nürnberg are at the bottom of the log on zero points after two contests.

Log leaders Hoffenheim will be looking to extend their 100% start to the season when they host Bayer Leverkusen at the Dietmar-Hopp-Stadion on Monday evening.

Having lost the last UEFA Women’s Champions League spot to Frankfurt last season, the hosts will be looking to unleash their two-game momentum on the visitors, who have managed just one win so far, in order to keep pressure on the title race. Leverkusen, on the other hand, will be buoyed by their 6-0 destruction of Nürnberg last weekend.

Forwards Melissa Kössler and Jill Janssens and midfielder Mara Alber were on target in Hoffenheim’s 3-1 win over Werder Bremen last weekend and the trio will be expected to retain their form as they play tricky Leverkusen.

Hoffenheim have collected six points from their first two matches whilst Leverkusen have collected three points and are fourth on the standings.

Frankfurt will be looking for their first win of the season when they host Bundesliga newcomers RB Leipzig at the Stadion am Brentanobad on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts’ latest defeat was a 4-2 loss to Wolfsburg last weekend whilst the visitors recorded a 3-2 win over Essen last weekend.

Forward Laura Freigang and midfielder Barbara Dunst scored in Frankfurt’s 4-2 loss to Wolfsburg last weekend and the duo will be tasked with steering the team to their first victory of the term whilst Leipzig will bank on midfielder Vanessa Fudalla and defender Frederike Kempe, who scored in their 3-2 win over Essen last weekend, to steer them to a win.

Frankfurt are 11th on the standings on zero points in two encounters whilst Leipzig are seventh on three points in the same number of ties.

Freiburg will be looking for their first win of the term when they host Werder Bremen at the Dreisamstadion on Sunday evening.

The hosts have recorded two consecutive draws whilst the visitors are coming from a 3-1 defeat to Wolfsburg last weekend.

Freiburg are ninth on the standings on two points from two draws in two contests whilst Werder Bremen are fifth on three points from one win in the same number of contests.

FC Köln will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich last weekend whey they host Duisburg at the Franz-Kremer-Stadion on Saturday afternoon.

Köln are eighth on the standings on three points from one win in two ties whilst Duisburg are 10th on a single point in the same number of outings.
