Bayern host Köln, Hoffenheim date Werder as Wolfsburg travel to Frankfurt: Frauen-Bundesliga Week 2 Preview

· Hoffenheim will be looking to repeat their 9-0 thumping of Nürnberg when they play Werder Bremen

· Wolfsburg travel to Eintracht Frankfurt on matchday two

Champions Bayern Munich will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2-2 draw against Freiburg away last weekend when they host FC Köln at the FC Bayern Campus Platz 1 on Monday evening.

The Bavarians will be desperate to register their first win of the term much earlier given the tight competition in the Bundesliga which saw them winning the title by a margin of a mere two points last season.

The Munich side will unleash their unrelenting forward Lea Schüller who was joint-second top scorer last term alongside Frankfurt’s Lara Prašnikar with 14 goals. They will also hope that new signings Magdalena Eriksson and Pernille Harder, who plied their trade at Chelsea, will make a difference in the clash having also been boosted by the return of midfielder Linda Dallmann from a long-term injury.

Köln, on the other hand, will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce having dismissed league newcomers RB Leipzig 2-1 at home last weekend.

Forward Marleen Schimmer and midfielder Sharon Beck were on target for the Cologne side and will be expected to replicate their fine form against the defending champions.

The visitors will be without Polish defender Martyna Wiankowska who was shown a red card after receiving two yellows last weekend.

Bayern sit sixth on the standings on a single point from their draw last weekend whilst Köln are fifth on three points.

Meanwhile, log leaders Hoffenheim, who lead the pack on goal difference, will be looking to make it two wins in two when they visit second place Werder Bremen on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors started the season in style demolishing Duisburg 9-0 at home last weekend whilst the hosts also recorded an emphatic 5-1 win over newcomers Nürnberg.

Both teams are on three points after matchday one.

Last season’s runners-up Wolfsburg travel to Eintracht Frankfurt Sunday afternoon hoping to make it two wins on the trot.

The former champions were 3-0 winners over Bayer Leverkusen last weekend whilst Frankfurt were edged 2-0 by SGS Essen.

The visitors will turn to the services of veteran striker Alexandra Popp who was the Golden Boot Award winner last season with 16 goals. They will also turn to the goal-scoring midfield trio of Lena Oberdorf, Lena Lattwein and Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir who found the back of the net in their 3-0 win over Leverkusen last weekend.

Wolfsburg sit third on the standings on three points whilst Frankfurt are ninth.

Bayer Leverkusen host Nürnberg on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts were at the receiving end of a 3-0 bashing by Wolfsburg last weekend and will be looking to make a come-back whilst the visitors were 5-1 losers to Werder Bremen and will be looking to rebound.

Leverkusen are 10th on the standings whilst Nürnberg are 11th after matchday one.

Freiburg travel to Duisburg for a clash on Sunday evening.

Freiburg drew 2-2 with Bayern Munich at home last weekend whilst Duisburg were at the receiving end of a 9-0 chastening at the hands of Hoffenheim.

Freiburg are seventh on the standings on a single point whilst Duisburg are at the bottom of the log.

RB Leipzig host Essen on Friday evening.

Leipzig were edged 2-1 by Köln away last weekend whilst Essen were 2-0 winners over Frankfurt.

The hosts will be without 19-year-old midfielder Julia Landenberger who was shown red after receiving two yellows last weekend.

Leipzig are eighth on the standings whilst Essen are fourth on three points.
