DFB-Pokal Frauen PREVIEW: Bayern Munich vs. Eintracht Frankfurt
Bayern Munich play Eintracht Frankfurt for the second time in two weeks as they clash in the DFB-Pokal Frauen Round of 16 at the Grünwalder Stadion in Munich on Saturday.
In their Frauen-Bundesliga clash a fortnight ago, the Bavarians were handed their first defeat of the season with a 3-2 result away in Frankfurt.
The hosts will seek to react as they face the same opponents in the DFB-Pokal Frauen with both teams carrying the same momentum of four wins and one defeat from their last five contests.
The Bavarians were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the semi-finals last year with a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wolfsburg, while Frankfurt went on to be defeated 1-0 in the final by Wolfsburg.
In the second round of the DFB-Pokal this season, Bayern Munich destroyed Elversberg 6-0 to draw against Frankfurt in the round of 16, while Frankfurt thrashed FC Nürnberg 5-0.
Bayern Munich will be wary of Frankfurt’s marauding forward, Laura Freigang, who scored a brace in the 5-0 win over FC Nürnberg, and also scored in Frankfurt’s Frauen-Bundesliga 3-2 win over Bayern Munich two weeks ago.
The last season’s DFB-Pokal silver medallists will have to worry about Bayern Munich’s defender-cum-midfielder, Maximiliane Rall, who scored in their 6-0 demolition of Elversberg and scored both goals for Bayern Munich in their 3-2 Frauen-Bundesliga defeat a fortnight ago.
