Preview: Tottenham vs Arsenal
Arsenal will be looking to extend their dominance at the summit of the Barclays Women’s Super League when they visit Tottenham Hotspurs at the Hive London Arena on Saturday.
Arsenal head into the London derby clash with the momentum of a 100% winning streak which has produced 18 points from six clashes.
The free scoring Gunners recorded a 4-0 thrashing of West Ham in their last WSL match and a 5-1 rout of HB Køge in the UEFA Women’s Champions League away on Wednesday, a stat which will add to their confidence.
On the other hand, third placed Tottenham are relishing the prospects of rising to second place above defending champions Chelsea with a win over the Gunners.
Rehanne Skinner’s side have the weight of 13 points from four wins, one draw and one defeat, a stat which likely poses a threat to Arsenal’s winning streak.
Tottenham drew 1-1 with Manchester United in their last WSL encounter and will be looking to bounce back with a crucial win at home.
The last time the two sides clashed was in the Women’s FA Cup quarter-final in late September and the visitors won 5-1.
Arsenal have scored 23 goals in six WSL matches while Tottenham have managed just eight. The Gunners have conceded just twice in this campaign while Spurs have conceded four times.
Spurs will be watching out for Arsenal forwards Kim Little, Vivianne Miedema and Beth Mead. Little leads the current WSL scoring charts with six goals in six matches while the other two are in third place with four goals apiece. Mead is also second on the assist charts with four in six matches.
Tottenham will also be wary of Australian forward Caitlin Foord who scored a brace in their 5-1 defeat in the Women’s FA Cup in September.
