CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

Elena Linari, Benedetta Glionna and Emilie Haavi scored as AS Roma powered to a crucial 3-1 victory over AC Milan at the Stadio Tre Fontane in Rome on Saturday.

The log leaders opened the scoring through Italian defender Linari, who slotted home a sliding right footed shot from very close range just eight minutes into the first half, before midfielder Valery Vigilucci equalised for Milan three minutes from half-time with a right footed shot from very close range into the bottom right corner.

Glionna restored the hostesses’ lead just five minutes into the second half with a right footed free kick to the high centre of the goal before former LSK Kvinner forward Haavi put the match to bed nine minutes later with a right footed screamer from outside the area into the top left corner, assisted by Linari with a headed pass from inside the area.

Roma remain at the apex of the championship play-offs standings on 54 points from 18 wins in 20 outings whilst Milan are fifth on goal difference with 35 points from 11 wins and two draws in 21 contests.

Meanwhile, a Milica Mijatović second half strike was enough for Fiorentina to edge Inter Milan 1-0 at the Stadio Piero Torrini in Florence on Sunday.

The 31-year-old former Melbourne City forward secured maximum points for Patrizia Panico’s side with a 64th minute right footed strike from outside the area into the bottom right corner, assisted by defender Alice Tortelli.

Fiorentina rose from fifth into third place on the championship play-offs standings on 38 points from 12 wins and five draws in 21 encounters whilst Inter slipped from third to fourth and are above fifth place cross-town rivals AC Milan on goal difference. They have gathered 35 points from 10 wins and five draws in 20 ties.

RELEGATION ROUND

A resurgent Sassuolo recorded their third straight win in the relegation play-offs with a 2-0 victory over A.S.D Pomigliano at the Stadio Enzo Ricci on Sunday.

The hostesses took a 51st minute lead through an own goal by the visitors’ Serbian goalkeeper Sara Cetinja when she deflected a Benedetta Briglioni shot off the post into her own net before Scottish attacker Lana Clelland doubled the lead on 69 minutes with a right footed shot from the right side of the six yard box into the bottom right corner, assisted by defender Sara Mella with a cross, to ensure that they remain at the top of the relegation play-offs standings.

Sassuolo have collected 26 points from seven wins and five draws in 21 contests whilst Pomigliano have collected 17 points from five wins and two draws in 20 ties and are second on the relegation play-offs table.

Elsewhere, a Chiara Beccari solitary strike was enough for Como to record their first win of the relegation play-off matches, going past Parma at the Stadio Ferruccio in Seregno on Saturday.

The 18-year-old attacker struck a right footed shot from outside the area into the bottom left corner 13 minutes into the second half, assisted by defender Chiara Cecotti, to secure a crucial full set of points for the hostesses.

The win saw Como rise from fourth to third on the relegation play-offs table with 15 points from three wins and six draws in 20 ties whilst Parma slipped from third to fourth on 13 points from three wins and four draws in 21 encounters.
