Inter in uphill Fiorentina task as Roma entertain Sampdoria: Serie A Femminile Week 9 Preview

Patrizia Panico will be relishing the prospects of going level on points with AS Roma at the crest of the Serie A when Fiorentina host Inter Milan on Sunday.

Viola will be looking to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to reigning champions Juventus three weeks ago whilst Inter will also be looking to rebound from a narrow 2-1 defeat to log leaders Roma three weeks ago.

The Florence side will be hoping that striker Zsanett Kaján will be in her best form to guide the team to their sixth win of the term. The Hungarian international is current club top scorer with three goals. Inter, on the other hand, will pin their hopes on free-scoring forward Elisa Polli who is has bagged seven goals in eight appearances this term and is joint-top scorer in the current Serie A term alongside Juventus’ Cristiana Girelli.

Fiorentina are second on the standings on 18 points from six wins in eight matches whilst Le Nerazzure are third on 17 points from five wins and two draws in the same number of encounters.

Elsewhere, Roma will be looking to extend their dominance on top of the log when they host beleaguered Sampdoria in the capital on Saturday.

Buoyant following their 3-1 defeat of Inter in the league three weeks ago and their 3-4 penalty shootout win over Juventus in the Super Coppa Final a fortnight ago, Alessandro Spugna’s side will be looking to secure their eighth full set of points ahead of a crucial UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) clash against German champions VfL Wolfsburg at home on Wednesday. On the other hand, Sampdoria, who have a five-game winless streak consisting of four defeats and a draw, will be looking to bounce back from their latest setback, a nil-all draw against Serie A greenhorns Parma three weeks ago.

The Rome side will turn to the services of former AC Milan skipper Valentina Giacinti who is club top scorer in the Serie A with five goals. Giacinti also scored Roma’s solitary regulation time goal in their Super Coppa Final win over Juventus a fortnight ago.

Sampdoria will be without midfielder Sara Baldi who was shown a straight red card for elbowing Parma defender Ana Jelenčić.

Roma lead the pack on 21 points from seven wins in eight contests whilst Sampdoria, who started the season on a high recording three straight wins, have fallen down the packing order and are now sixth on the standings on 10 points from three wins and a draw in the same number of outings.

Champions Juventus will be looking for their sixth win of the term when they travel to Parma on Saturday in their quest to reclaim top spot.

The Turin giants will be looking to avenge their disappointing 4-3 penalty shootout loss to Roma in the Super Coppa Final a fortnight ago on the Serie A newcomers ahead of a crucial UWCL clash against English side Arsenal at home on Thursday. On the other hand, Parma, who have suffered six defeats and a draw in eight encounters, face the uphill task of looking to secure an evasive second win of the season against the defending champions.

The Bianconere will ride on the industry of seasoned goal scorer Cristiana Girelli who has found the back of the net seven times in seven appearances in the league this term and is joint-top scorer on the Serie A charts alongside Inter’s Elisa Polli.

Juventus are fourth on the standings on 17 points from five wins and two draws in eight outings whilst Parma are ninth on four points from one win and one draw in the same number of contests.

Fifth place AC Milan will be looking for their fifth win of the term when they host Serie A newcomers Como on Sunday in a bid to rescue an otherwise faltering season.

The Rossonere will be looking to bounce back from a 2-1 defeat to Pomigliano three weeks ago, which was their fourth defeat of the season whilst Como have the uphill task of looking for an evasive second win of the term against Maurizio Ganz’s wounded side.

The visitors will have to watch out for fun-scoring forward Kosovare Asllani who has netted six times in seven appearances for Milan in the league this term and is joint-third top scorer in the current Serie A campaign alongside Inter’ Tabitha Chawinga.

Milan are on 12 points from four wins in eight encounters whilst Como are eighth on the standings on five points from one win and two draws in the same number of contests.

Bottom place Sassuolo will be looking for an evasive first win of the term when they host a resurgent Pomigliano on Sunday.

The Emilia-Rogmana side have struggled this term recording five defeats and three draws in their opening eight matches whilst the visitors have recorded seven points from two wins and a draw in the same number of encounters and are seventh on the standings.
