Juárez stun Tigres as Monterrey extend winning streak: Liga MX Femenil Week 6 Round-Up

Tigres lost 3-1 to Juárez at the Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez on Saturday.

The hosts went ahead in the 10th minute through Jasmine Casarez but Tigres were level on the stroke of half-time through Mia Fishel.

In the 62nd minute, South African Jermaine Seoposenwe’s shot on goal was punched by keeper Cecilia Santiago into the path of an onrushing Myra Delgadillo who slammed the ball home to make it 2-1.

Two minutes later, Seoposenwe put the final nail on the Tigres’ coffin with a looping header over keeper Cecilia Santiago to seal a rousing win.

Juárez are fifth on the standings, tied on 15 points with Tigres, but the latter are fourth on goal difference.

Meanwhile, Monterrey consolidated their lead at the top of the standings when they thrashed Cruz Azul 3-0 at the Instalaciones La Noria Cancha on Friday.

Goals from Diana Evangelista, Christina Buckenroad and Yamile Franco were all that the Rayadas needed to claim the victory.

Monterrey are now the only team that has won the first six matches of this Clausura season. They have registered 18 points whilst Cruz Azul have collected nine points and are ninth on the standings.

Chivas Guadalajara bounced back to winning ways when they edged a determined Puebla 2-1 at the Instalaciones de Verde Valle in Guadalajara on Friday.

Puebla took a surprising early lead from the penalty spot through Fatima Bracamonte in the 8th minute.

Chivas had to wait until the 50th minute to draw level through Kinberly Guzmán. 10 minutes later, Gabriela Valenzuela got the winner when she rose highest to plant a firm header through the keeper Karla Morales’ fingers into goal.

Chivas are in second place on the log, just two points away from the pacesetters whilst Puebla are 15th with three points.

Club Nexaca continued to sing the blues as they slumped to a sixth straight defeat going down 1-0 at home to Querétaro on Friday.

Deisy Ojeda’s goal in the ninth minute was all Querétaro needed to pile more misery on Necaxa.

Nexaca are at the bottom of the log with zero points whilst Querétaro are 11th with seven points.

Club América failed to take advantage of Tigres’ drop on the log table when they were held to a one-all draw by Santos Laguna on Friday.

Laguna took the lead just before half-time via a penalty by Alexia Villanueva only to succumb to an 82nd equalizer by Karen Luna.

Club América are sixth on the standings with 14 points whilst Laguna are 12th with five points.

Spanish veteran striker Jennifer Hermoso struck a superb brace as Pachuca dismissed Club León 3-0 at the Estadio León in León on Saturday.

Charlyn Corral had given Pachuca the lead in the 39th minute, curling the ball with her weaker left foot into the bottom corner of goal.

Hermoso struck in the 67th minute when she reacted fastest to a loose ball to stab home. She headed home her second with four minutes left to seal the points for Pachuca.

Pachucha are third on the standings with 15 points whilst León are 14th with three points.

Daniela Espinosa’s brilliant first half goal was all Tijuana needed to edge out UNAM Pumas 1-0 in Mexico City on Saturday.

Espinosa received the ball just outside the goal area and curled a beautiful strike beyond the reach of keeper Melany Villeda into the top right corner.

Tijuana lie in seventh position and will be hoping to hold on to one of the top eight places and secure a place in the season-ending play-offs whilst Pumas are 13th with four points.

Atlético San Luis thrashed Mazatlán 4-1 at the Alfonso Lastras Stadium on Saturday.

Estefania Izaguirre, Beatriz Parra, Itzia Tenahua and Joana Robles all scored to give the home side a comfortable lead whilst Olga Trasviña scored the visitors’ solitary goal.

Mazatlán lie in 16th place having won only once in six matches whilst San Luis lie eighth.

Atlas edged Toluca 4-3 Estadio Nemesio Díez on Friday.

Zellyka Arce converted an early penalty for Altas but Toluca hit back seven minutes later through Destinney Duron.

Valeria Razo restored Atlas’ lead in the 32nd minute before Alejandra Franco and Carolina Venegas scored within two minutes of each other early in the second half as Atlas sought to run away with the match.

Duron scored two more goals for Toluca to give the match some spice in the closing stages.

Atlas are 10th on the standings with nine points whilst Toluca are 17th with a single point.
