Juve, Roma aim wins as Milan host Inter in Milan derby: Serie A Femminile Week 15 Preview
· AC Milan will be looking to revenge their 4-0 thumping by Inter in the first leg when they host their cross-town rivals in the reverse fixture of the Milan derby on Saturday
Joe Montemurro’s side, who are trailing league leaders AS Roma by five points with four matches to go, will be looking to make it two wins on the trot when they host troubled Sampdoria at the Juventus Centre Vinovo on Sunday afternoon.
Juventus will be looking to build on their 2-1 win over Pomigliano in the league last weekend as well as their 3-0 win over Chievo Verona in the quarter-final first leg of the Coppa Italia on Wednesday. As for Sampdoria, who have recorded 10 defeats and a draw in their last 11 matches, they will be looking for an elusive fourth win of the term.
Forwards Sofia Cantore and Lineth Beerensteyn were on target in their 2-1 win over Pomigliano last weekend and the Bianconere will be tipping the pair to replicate their form in this encounter. Club top scorer Cristiana Girelli scored a brace in their 3-0 Coppa Italia win over Chievo Verona on Wednesday and the 32-year-old will be expected to shine again come Sunday.
The Turin side have been boosted by the signing of 22-year-old Swedish forward Pauline Nyström from Damallsvenskan side Eskilstuna United DFF.
Juventus are second on the standings on 31 points from nine wins and four draws in 14 outings whilst Sampdoria are ninth on 10 points from three wins and a draw in the same number of encounters.
Meanwhile, Roma will be looking to maintain the gap at the apex of the log with a win when they host beleaguered Sassuolo on Sunday afternoon.
Buoyant following their 3-2 win over Parma in the league last weekend and their 8-1 Coppa Italia Quarter-Final first leg demolition of Pomigliano on Wednesday, Le Giallorosse will be looking to make it 13 wins in 15 outings as they unleash their momentum on their troubled Emilia-Rogmana opponents.
Midfielders Emilie Haavi and Andressa Alves and forward Valentina Giacinti were on the scoresheet in their 3-2 win over Parma last weekend and the capital city side will be hoping that the trio are in the same form to deliver yet another crucial full set of points. Giacinti, Andressa, Manuela Giugliano, Benedetta Glionna and Nina Kajba were also on target in the Coppa Italia eight-goal festival on Wednesday with Andressa netting a brace having come on as a 60th minute substitute. The quintet will also likely have a say in the unfolding of things on Sunday afternoon.
Alessandro Spugna’s side are on 36 points from 12 wins in 14 contests whilst Sassuolo are seventh on the standings on 11 points from two wins and five draws in the same number of ties.
AC Milan host Inter at the Centro Sportivo Peppino Vismara on Saturday afternoon in the reverse fixture of the Milan derby.
Inter were 4-0 winners at the Breda Stadium Milano in the first fixture back in October last year.
On the other hand, Milan have won three of the last five matches which they have played against their bitter cross-town rivals, giving them a somewhat upper hand heading into this fixture.
Forward Elisa Polli scored a brace in Inter’s 4-0 win over Milan back in October last year and the 22-year-old Italian international will be tasked with steering Le Nerazzure to a crucial derby win this Saturday. Polli has scored nine goals in 13 appearances for Inter in the league and is second-top scorer in the current Serie A campaign. On-loan Malawian forward Tabitha Chawinga also scored a goal in the match, as well as defender Stefanie van der Gragt. Chawinga, however, will carry greater expectations of the team, given how she has performed this term. The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 11 appearances for Inter and is the top scorer in the current Serie A campaign.
AC Milan will pin their hopes on forward Kosovare Asllani who has scored eight goals in 12 appearances for the Rossonere and is joint-third top scorer in the current Serie A campaign alongside Girelli.
Rita Guarino’s side are fourth on the standings on 26 points from seven wins and five draws in 14 outings whilst Maurizio Ganz’s side are fifth on 25 points from eight wins and a draw in the same number of encounters.
Patrizia Panico’s Fiorentina will be looking to keep pressure on the teams above with a win when they host Pomigliano on Saturday afternoon.
The Florence side rose to third place last weekend following a narrow 1-0 win over Sassuolo and they will be looking to build on the result and make it two wins on the bounce.
Centre back Laura Agard scored the only goal last weekend and the hosts will be hoping that the Frenchwoman retains her form in their quest for a 10th win of the term.
The hosts will still be without forward Milica Mijatović who is serving a three-match ban after receiving a straight red card for a foul in their 7-1 defeat to Roma a fortnight ago.
Fiorentina have amassed 28 points from nine wins and a draw in 14 encounters whilst Pomigliano are sixth on the standings on 13 points from four wins and a draw in the same number of outings.
Parma will be hunting for an elusive second win of the term when they host fellow strugglers Como on Sunday afternoon.
Como will still be without first choice goalkeeper Beatrice Beretta who was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box in their 1-0 defeat to Pomigliano a fortnight ago.
The visitors are eighth on the standings on 11 points from two wins and five draws in 14 contests whilst the hosts are at the bottom of the log on six points from one win and three draws in the same number of outings.
