Juventus leave it late as Inter, AC Milan held: Serie A Femminile Week 9 Round Up
Reigning champions Juventus left it late to come back from a goal down to win 2-1 over Serie A newcomers Parma away on Saturday.
Juventus coach Joe Montemurro made five changes to the team which lost 4-3 to AS Roma on penalties in the Super Coppa Final a fortnight ago bringing on Roberta Aprile, Martina Rossuci, Matilde Lundorf Skovsen, Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir and Valentina Cernoia for Pauline Peyraud-Magnin, Cecilia Salvai, Linda Sembrant, Julia Grosso and Barbara Bonansea.
On the other hand, Parma coach Fabio Ulderici made just two changes to the team which drew nil-all against Sampdoria three weeks ago bringing on Malania Martinovic and Niamh Farrelly for Arianna Acuti and Giorgia Arrigoni.
Martinovic put the hosts in the lead in the 19th minute when she headed home a precise cross from Farrelly and the I Gialloblu went to half-time in the lead.
The match appeared set to become Juventus’ second defeat of the term before full-back Lisa Boattin equalised with a great left foot from a distance in the second minute of second half extra-time with an assist from second half substitute Bonansea. Gunnarsdóttir made it 2-1 for Juventus with another shot from a distance in the 96th minute with an assist from forward Cristiana Girelli.
The result saw the Bianconere rise to second from fourth on the standings on 20 points from six wins and two draws in nine contests whilst Parma, who plunged to their seventh defeat of the term, slipped one place from ninth to 10th on four points from one win and one draw in the same number of outings.
Elsewhere, Roma consolidated their place at the apex of the Serie A with a dominant 2-0 victory over Sampdoria at home on Saturday.
Midfielder Manuela Giugliano opened the scoring for Roma three minutes before half-time and the hosts would go to the break in the lead.
69th minute substitute forward Sophie Roman Haug made it 2-0 for Le Giallorosse with a strike seven minutes before the death of regulation time to secure their eighth full set of points.
The result saw Roma move to 24 points from eight wins in nine outings whilst Sampdoria remain sixth on 10 points from three wins and a draw in the same number of encounters.
Inter Milan and Fiorentina shared the spoils following a goalless draw at the Stadio Piero Torrini in Florence on Sunday.
The result saw Inter slip from third to fourth on the standings on 18 points from five wins and three draws in eight matches whilst Fiorentina slipped from second to third on 19 points from six wins and one draw in the same number of contests.
Serie A newcomers Como came back from two goals down to draw 3-3 against AC Milan in a dramatic encounter at the Centro Sportivo Peppino Vismara in Milan on Sunday.
French forward Lindsey Thomas opened the scoring for Milan with a strike just 10 minutes into the first half before doubling the lead 12 minutes later.
Swedish midfielder Julia Karlernäs pulled one back to make it 2-1 for Como on 41 minutes and the teams went for the break.
Milan defender Laura Fusetti made it 3-1 for Milan with a strike on 55 minutes with an assist from midfielder Marta Mascarello before defender Linda Tucceri Cimini fluffed an opportunity to extend the hosts’ lead when she missed a penalty in the 74th minute.
Como immediately punished Milan with forward Chiara Beccari finding the back of the net one minute later to make it 3-2 for the visitors with an assist from defender Emma Lipman. Como were awarded their own penalty in the second minute of second half extra-time which defender Giulia Rizzon also missed before collecting the rebound to make it 3-3 on 93 minutes to secure a point for the Sebastian de la Fuente’s side.
AC Milan remain fifth on the standings despite gaining a point. They have registered 13 points from four wins and a draw in eight outgoings whilst Como slipped from eighth to ninth on six points from one win and three draws in the same number of encounters.
US Sassuolo recorded their first win of the term with a 2-1 victory over Pomigliano at home on Sunday.
Evdokiya Popadinova opened the scoring for Sassuolo with a strike on 24 minutes and the hosts would take the lead to the break.
Pomigliano replied through midfielder Valentina Gallazzi just three minutes into the second half before 59th minute substitute striker Lana Clelland restored the hosts’ lead with a strike on 67 minutes with an assist from defender Benedetta Orsi to secure Sassuolo’s first full set of points.
The result saw Sassuolo rise from bottom of the log to eighth place on the standings on six points from one win and three draws in eight encounters whilst Pomigliano remain seventh on seven points from two wins and a draw in the same number of contests.
