Juventus, Milan held as Sassuolo dominate relegation play-offs: Serie A Femminile Play-Offs Week 7 Round-Up

CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

Inter came from two goals down to snatch a point with a 2-2 result in the Derby d’Italia away to former champions Juventus on Saturday afternoon.

Juventus took the lead as early as the second minute of the first half through utility player Sofie Junge Pedersen with an assist from midfielder Arianna Caruso before forward Sofia Cantore doubled the lead with a strike on 15 minutes, assisted by fellow forward Barbara Bonansea as the Bianconere appeared to have killed the match.

Italian forward Elisa Polli pulled one back for Rita Guarino’s side 15 minutes from time, assisted by French midfielder Ghoutia Karchouni. The goal was Polli’s 11th in 22 appearances and consolidated her position as Inter’s second top scorer behind Tabitha Chawinga.

Chawinga leveled matters with a strike in the second minute of second half extra-time as Karchouni registered her second assist of the day, and the spoils were shared. The goal was Chawinga’s 19th in 20 appearances for the Nerazzurre and consolidated her position at the top of the Serie A goal charts.

Juventus remain second on the Serie A championship play-offs standings on 51 points from 15 wins and six draws in 24 outings whilst Inter remain fifth on 36 points from 10 wins and six draws in the same number of encounters.

Meanwhile, AC Milan drew one-all with Fiorentina at the Stadio Piero Torinni in Florence on Sunday afternoon to remain third on the championship play-offs standings.

Patrizia Panico’s side opened the scoring through former Milan midfielder Verónica Boquete from the penalty spot just four minutes from half-time and the teams retreated for the break.

Former Parma forward Chanté-Mary Dompig leveled matters with a strike just six minutes into the second half with an assist from former Sassuolo attacking midfielder Kamila Dubcová, to ensure that the teams shared the spoils.

Milan have amassed 40 points from 12 wins and four draws in 24 ties whilst Fiorentina are on 39 points from 12 wins and three draws in the same number of contests and are fourth on the championship play-offs standings.

RELEGATION ROUND

A late Daniela Sabatino penalty saw Sassuolo edge Parma 5-4 at home on Saturday afternoon to remain at the top of the Serie A relegation play-offs table.

The nine-goal thriller was ignited by Parma through Finnish defender Nora Heroum in the first minute of the first half before Danish defender Caroline Pleidrup equalised for Sassuolo on 18 minutes.

Midfielder Valeria Monterubbiano put Sassuolo in the lead with a strike just two minutes from half-time, assisted by Scottish forward Lana Clelland, and the teams retreated for the break.

Half-time substitute attacker Mia Corbin made it 2-2 for Parma with a strike just two minutes after coming on before Monterubbiano returned to complete her brace and restore Sassuolo’s lead just three minutes later with an assist from defender Tamar Dongus.

Clelland returned with her second goal contribution for the day and struck home on 58 minutes to make it 4-2 to Sassuolo before forward Michela Cambiaghi pulled another one back for Parma with a strike just a minute later.

Swedish attacker Marija Banušić made it 4-4 for Parma with a strike on 66 minutes, assisted by Cambiaghi, as the spoils appeared to have been shared.

Last season’s Golden Boot Award winner Daniela Sabatino snatched the winner for Sassuolo in the second minute of second half extra-time from the penalty spot to secure three crucial points for the hostesses.

Sassuolo are now on 32 points from nine wins and five draws in 24 encounters whilst Parma are on 15 points from three wins and six draws in the same number of outings and are fourth on the relegation play-offs standings.

Goals from Camila Linberg and Julia Karlernäs were enough for Como to edge troubled Sampdoria 2-1 at the Stadio Ferruccio, Seregno on Sunday afternoon.

Linberg grabbed the lead for Como from the penalty spot just 11 minutes into the first half before Juventus on-loan forward Agnese Bonfantini leveled the scores for Sampdoria also from the penalty spot in the first minute of first half extra-time and the teams retreated for the break.

Karlernäs sealed the win for Como from the penalty spot again eight minutes from time.

Sampdoria centre back Giorgia Spinelli was shown a straight red card for fouling Como forward Vlada Kubassova at the stroke of 90 minutes before Karlernäs was also shown a red card after receiving her second yellow for a foul on Sampdoria midfielder Michela Giordano in the sixth minute of second half extra-time.
