CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

AS Roma edged reigning champions Juventus 3-2 at the Stadio Tre Fontane in Rome on Saturday afternoon, to stretch the gap to 11 points at the top of the Serie A.

The visitors opened the scoring through forward Barbara Bonansea, who was marking her 150th appearance for the Bianconere, 14 minutes into the first half with an assist from former BK Häcken forward Paulina Nyström before Brazilian midfielder Andressa Alves leveled scores for Roma two minutes later with her 11th goal of the term.

Midfielder Arianna Caruso restored the lead for Joe Montemurro’s side from the penalty spot on 25 minutes and the teams would retreat for half-time.

Former AC Milan skipper Valentina Giacinti restored parity with a strike in the 60th minute with an assist from defender Elisa Bartoli before 80th minute substitute forward Sophie Roman Haug struck home four minutes from time with an assist from former LSK Kvinner teammate Emilie Haavi to hand the hostesses a crucial three points.

Roma are at the apex of the Serie A championship play-offs standings on 60 points from 20 wins in 22 encounters whilst Juventus are in second place on 49 points from 15 wins and four draws in the same number of contests.

Meanwhile, AC Milan claimed the third Milan derby of the term with a 3-1 win over cross-town rivals Inter Milan at home on Saturday afternoon.

Scottish midfielder Christy Grimshaw opened the account for Milan with a strike on 27 minutes with an assist from former Sassuolo midfielder Kamila Dubcová and the hostesses would take their lead into half-time.

Forward Elisa Polli leveled matters with a strike on 61 minutes with an assist from Malawian forward Tabitha Chawinga before former Fiorentina striker Martina Piemonte restored the lead for Maurizio Ganz’s side with a strike nine minutes from time.

Midfielder Valery Vigilucci increased the hostesses lead with a strike just two minutes later with an assist from Piemonte as Milan secured an important set of maximum points.

The win saw Milan rise from fifth to third on the championship play-offs standings on 38 points from 12 wins and two draws in 22 ties whilst Inter slipped from fourth to fifth on 35 points from 10 wins and five draws in the same number of outings.

RELEGATION ROUND

Como edged Sassuolo 2-1 in a relegation play-offs match played at the Stadio Ferruccio in Seregno on Sunday afternoon.

Former Lillestrøm forward Camilla Linberg opened the scoring for Como 15 minutes into the first half with an assist from fellow forward Chiara Beccari before South African international Refiloe Jane leveled scores for Sassuolo with a strike in the 31st minute and the teams would retreat for half-time.

Swedish midfielder Julia Karlernäs restored the lead for the hostesses from the penalty spot seven minutes from time as they secured a vital set of full points.

Sassuolo remain at the top of the relegation play-offs table on 26 points from seven wins and five draws in 22 contests whilst Como are second on 21 points from five wins and six draws in the same number of encounters.

Sampdoria recorded their first win of the relegation-play offs with a 4-1 thumping of Pomigliano on Sunday afternoon.

Sampdoria opened the scoring through an own goal by 18-year-old Pomigliano centre back Angela Passeri just four minutes into the first half before Guatemalan forward Ana Lucía Martínez leveled matters for the visitors with a strike on 39 minutes with an assist from midfielder Iris Rabot.

Passeri restored the hostesses lead with another own goal at the stroke of half-time and the teams retreated for half-time.

Juventus on-loan forward Agnese Bonfantini made it 3-1 to Sampdoria with a strike just three minutes into the second half before midfielder Cecilia Re made it 4-1 with a strike 11 minutes from time with an assist from midfielder Michela Giordano.

The win saw Sampdoria rise from fifth to fourth on the relegation play-offs table on 15 points from four wins and three draws in 22 outings whilst Pomilgiano remain third on 17 points from five wins and two draws in the same number of ties.
