Le Giallorosse seek to increase gap as Bianconere play catch-up: Serie A Femminile Week 14 Preview
• League leaders AS Roma will look to increase the gap at the summit of the Serie A with a date with lowly Parma after the Fiorentina massacre last weekend
· Elsewhere Juventus play guests to somewhat tricky Pomigliano in a tie which could end title hopes for the defending champions who have staggered to wins this term
Alessandro Spugna’s side will be looking to make it 12 wins in 14 outings when they travel to Parma on Sunday.
Effervescent following their 7-1 capitulation of Fiorentina away in Florence last weekend, Le Giallorosse will be hoping that another win will put them firmly in the driver’s seat as they seek to snatch the scudetto from reigning champions Juventus who are now five points adrift the league leaders. Parma, on the other hand, have the uphill task of having to look for their second win of the term against the marauding league leaders. The hosts suffered a 2-0 defeat to AC Milan last weekend — which was their ninth defeat of the season.
Brazilian Andressa Alves scored a brace in their 7-1 dispatching of Fiorentina and visitors will be hoping that the midfielder can replicate her performance in this tie. Fellow midfielders Giada Greggi, Emilie Haavi, Norma Cinotti, Manuela Giugliano and 17-year-old Zara Kramžar also grabbed a goal each in the goal-fest and will be expected to be in top form. The hosts, on the other hand, will pin their hopes on forward Melania Martinovic who has netted five goals in 13 appearances for Parma and is club top scorer.
Roma have collected 33 points from 11 wins and two draws in 13 encounters whilst Parma are at the bottom of the log on six points from one win and three draws in the same number of outings.
Meanwhile, champions Juventus will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing one-all draw at home to Sassuolo last weekend when they travel to Pomigliano on Sunday in their quest for a sixth consecutive scudetto.
16-year-old Manuela Sciabia broke a Serie A record becoming the youngest scorer in the Italian top flight when she equalised for Sassuolo in second half extra-time to deny Juventus the all-important three points.
Juventus will be hoping that they can make it nine wins in 14 contests whilst Pomigliano will be looking to make it two wins in a row following a narrow 1-0 win over Serie A newcomers Como last weekend.
Centre back Cecilia Salvai scored the only goal for the Bianconere in their one-all draw with Sassuolo and the visitors will be hoping that Italian international can replicate her performance in this encounter.
Joe Montemurro’s side are second on the standings on 28 points from eight wins and four draws in 13 ties whilst Pomigliano are sixth on 13 points from four wins and a draw in the same number of outings.
Third place Inter will be looking to keep pressure on the leading teams with a win when they host strugglers Como at home on Sunday.
Le Nerazzure will be looking to make it three wins in a row after emphatically dispatching Sampdoria 4-0 last weekend whilst Como will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat to Pomigliano last weekend having recorded just two wins this term.
Forwards Elisa Polli and Tabitha Chawinga, midfielder Ghoutia Karchouni and full back Chiara Robustellini were on target for Rita Guarino’s side in their 4-0 win over Sampdoria and the Milan side will be hoping that the quartet will be in the same form as they seek a crucial set of maximum points on Sunday.
Chawinga has scored 10 goals in 10 appearances for Inter this term and is top scorer on the Serie A charts whilst Karchouni has assisted five times in 13 appearances for Inter and is joint-top assist raker on the Serie A charts alongside Juventus’ Julia Grosso.
Como will be without goalkeeper Beatrice Beretta after she was shown a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box in their 1-0 defeat to Pomigliano last weekend.
Inter have registered 25 points from seven wins and four draws in 13 outings whilst Como are ninth on the standings on 10 points from two wins and four draws in the same number of campaigns.
AC Milan will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they travel to Sampdoria on Saturday.
Maurizio Ganz’s side will be looking to build on their dominant 2-0 win over Parma last weekend whilst Sampdoria will be hunting for an elusive fourth win of the term having recorded nine defeats and a draw in their last 10 matches.
Forward Martina Piemonte and centre back Guðný Árnadóttir were on target for the Rossonere in their 2-0 win over Parma last weekend and the visitors will look up to the pair for inspiration.
Milan are fifth on the standings on 22 points from seven wins and a draw in 13 contests whilst Sampdoria are eighth on 10 points from three wins and a draw in the same number of ties.
Fiorentina will be looking to stop a slide down the log when they travel to troubled Sassuolo on Saturday.
Fiorentina were at the receiving end of a 7-1 bashing at the hands of Roma last weekend and will be desperately looking to make a rebound whilst Sassuolo, who have oddly struggled this season, managed to rescue a point against Juventus last weekend and will be looking for their third win of the season.
The Viola will pin their hopes on Hungarian forward Zsanett Kaján to steer them to a crucial victory. Kaján has bagged five goals in nine appearances for the Florence side and is club top scorer. As for Sassuolo, they will be hoping that Sciabia can replicate her theatrics after she helped them rescue a point against Juventus last weekend.
Fiorentina will be without Serbian forward Milica Mijatović who was shown a first half straight red card for a bad foul on Cinotti in their 7-1 defeat to Roma last weekend.
Patrizia Panico’s side are fourth on the standings on 25 points from eight wins and a draw in 13 outings whilst Sassuolo are seventh on 11 points from two wins and five draws in the same number of contests.
