Lyon, PSG seek to bounce back after torrid European night: D1 Arkema Week 17 Preview

Log leaders Olympique Lyon hope to bounce back when they play ninth-ranked Guingamp on Saturday after a difficult night in the UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) in which they lost 1-0 at home to English giants Chelsea.

Sonia Bompastor, who recently extended her stay at Lyon to 2026, will seek quick response from her charges after the loss on Wednesday.

With an unassailable 20 wins, two draws and zero loses in the 22 matches played between the two teams, Lyon head into the match on the front foot hoping to inflict more pain on Guingamp.

Ada Hederberg will return to the domestic league after an extended period on the sidelines due to injury. She will be hoping to announce her return amongst the goals too.

Guingamp, on the other hand, will be looking for their first win in 22 attempts against Lyon.

Meanwhile, fresh from a 1-0 defeat in Europe to Germany’s Wolfsburg, another French giant Paris Saint-Germain will be looking for a quick turnaround when they travel to fifth-placed Montpellier on Sunday at Stade Bernard Gasset Terrain n°7.

Having registered nine wins, one defeat and six draws in a total of 16 matches, the Parisians will, this time, be hoping to register a win having been held to a 1-1 draw at home on August 19th.

Top marks-woman Kadidiatou Diani, on 17 goals this season, will hope to continue her goal-scoring form with all eyes on the golden boot as well as good form heading into the 2023 Women’s World Cup in July.

On the other hand, Montpellier will be banking on home advantage as they look to record their first win against the side from the capital. Having forced a share of the points in the corresponding tie, nothing is off the menu for Yannick Chandioux’s outfit.

A return to winning ways will also be of paramount importance for Montpellier having gone two games without a victory in their previous two games.

Paris FC, who sit in third place on the log, make a trip to Stade Sainte-Germaine for a date against FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Having gone four games undefeated after a 2-0 loss to Fleury on January 15th, the Sandrine Soubeyrand coached side will be hoping that forwards Mathilde Bourdieu (10 goals) and Clara Matéo (nine goals) continue with their impressive form in front of goal.

Bordeaux will be out to arrest a torrid run which has seen them go winless since as far back as January 14th when they beat Dijon at home.

Fleury will kick-start matchday 16 of the league program when they travel to Merchant logo Stade Oceane for a date against Le Havre on Friday.

With the final qualifying spot for next-year’s UWCL still up for grabs, Fabrice Abriel will be hoping for a win to put pressure on Paris FC who they trail by five points.

Le Havre, on the other hand, will be out to continue on a streak that has seen them win two games from two leading into this fixture.

Seventh-placed Stade de Reims welcome bottom side Soyaux-Charente to Stade Louis Blériot N°2.

The hosts, who have gone winless in three games going into this match, will be out to redeem their season against the league’s leaky defense.

A victory for Reims will see them cement their place on seventh ahead of Bordeaux who trail them on eighth.

On the other hand, Soyaux will be hoping to ensure they do not go down without a fight as they, more likely, will be playing in the lower division come next season.

A relegation contest is on the cards as 10th placed Dijon welcome 11th placed Rodez to the DFCO Training and Training Center.

Dijon have registered three wins, three draws and 10 defeats, amounting to 12 points whilst Rodez have recorded two wins, two draws and 12 defeats, amounting to eight points.
