Madrid CFF in Barcelona struggle as Real Madrid eye top three finish: Primera Iberdrola Week 25 Preview
Barcelona will look to make it 25 wins in 25 matches when they visit Madrid CFF at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Matapiñonera on Saturday afternoon.
The Blaugranes will be hoping to continue from their midweek 3-1 comeback win over rivals Real Madrid in their UEFA Women’s Champions League (UWCL) quarter final first leg match.
With Madrid CFF struggling this season and in danger of relegation if they fail to collect maximum points from their remaining matches, it will be another easy victory for the visitors.
Barcelona will be without forwards Asisat Oshoala and Lieke Martens who are still injured, and fellow forwards Claudia Pina and Jenni Hermoso may be trusted to lead the attack line complimented by midfielders Alexia Putellas, Patri Guijarro and Aitana Bonmati.
The teams have met 11 times and Barcelona won all the matches.
Madrid CFF are only seven points from relegation zone with six matches remaining and have the uphill task of stopping a Barcelona side that has scored 136 goals in 24 matches and conceded only six goals in the process.
Elsewhere, Real Madrid have a chance to make it into the top three when they meet Levante at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano on Saturday afternoon.
The Madrid side have won four of their last five games and are now on 44 points, two points below top three with a game in hand.
They will be hoping to put behind them the 3-1 midweek home loss to Barcelona in the UWCL quarter finals.
Levante, on the other hand, have been boosted by the points reinstated which moved them to seventh position and have an outside chance of making it into top three if they win their last seven matches.
Real Madrid will be hoping that their top goal scorer Esther González will be in top form to get goals for them.
The teams have met five times and Levante have won four and Real Madrid have won the other one.
Atlético Madrid host struggling Valencia at the Estadio Wanda Atlético de Madrid Alcalá de Henares on Saturday afternoon.
The Madrid side are currently occupying the third spot on 46 points after 24 games and tied with fourth-placed UDG Tenerife on points whilst Valencia are only five points above relegation and lie 14th on the standings.
Atlético Madrid’s lack of consistency has been their Achilles heel this season as they have managed only seven points from a possible 15 in their last five matches.
The teams have met in 21 competitive matches with Atletico winning 12, losing two and drawing seven.
Second-placed Real Sociedad make a trip to Campo Federativo de la Orden to face Sporting Huelva on Sunday.
Sociedad are seven points above third-placed Atlético Madrid and are hoping to collect maximum points to keep hopes alive in their quest for a top three finish.
The visitors have been inconsistent in their last matches and were further away from a top three finish before the league chiefs reinstated their formerly deducted points.
Sporting Huelva, on the other hand, have drawn 12 matches so far this season, the highest in the league, and are only five points above relegation.
The two teams have met 20 times with Real Sociedad winning nine, losing four and drawing seven.
UDG Tenerife have a tricky tie against Real Betis at the Estadio La Palmera on Sunday.
Tenerife have lost ground in the race for top three finish when they lost to fellow contenders Real Madrid and Atlético Madrid which left them on 46 points after 24 matches.
They are hoping to collect maximum points against Betis as any other result would see them drop to fifth if Real Madrid win against Levante on Saturday.
Betis, on the other hand, will be fighting for a top eight finish and maximum points against Tenerife would boost such chances.
The teams have met 11 times with Tenerife winning nine and losing two.
Eibar have a daunting task in their fight against relegation when they face Sevilla at the Ramón Cisneros Palacios on Saturday afternoon.
Eibar are occupying 15th place with 16 points after 24 matches whilst Sevilla are hoping to collect maximum points and compete for a top eight finish.
The teams have met three times with Eibar winning two and losing one.
A win for Eibar will take them to 19 points and boost their chances of relegation survival.
Alavés welcome Rayo Vallecano at the Ciudad Deportiva José Luis Compañón on Saturday.
The home side requires eight points from the remaining seven matches to survive relegation.
The teams have met once and Alavés came out 2-1 victors in September 2021.
Villarreal are hoping to collect maximum points when they welcome Athletic Bilbao at the Ciudad Deportiva on Saturday evening.
Athletic Club are sixth on the standings with 39 points whilst Villarreal, who received a boost after initially deducted points were reinstated, are 12th with 23 points and seven points above relegation.
A win for the home side will be a major boost in their relegation survival fight.
The teams have met once before with Athletic Club winning the tie 2-1 in October 2021.
