Primera Iberdrola Week 15 Preview: Barcelona set to increase dominance as Atletico clash is cancelled amid Covid-19 cases
Barcelona are relishing the prospects of reaching the halfway mark of the campaign without tasting defeat as they welcome Madrid CFF at the Estadi Johan Cruyff on Wednesday evening.
The defending champions are coming from a resounding 4-0 victory over struggling Rayo Vallecano last Saturday.
For the defending champions, Madrid CFF will not be a pushover and unlike against Rayo last week, the hosts are expected to field a stronger side to counter the threat posed by the visitors.
Barcelona, however, have not lost to Madrid CFF in their previous 10 meetings, winning comfortably, except for the last one in June this year which finished 3-2 in favour of Barcelona.
The visitors welcome their top goal scorer Geyse Ferreira, whose two yellow cards against Valencia a fortnight ago resulted in her being sent off.
Elsewhere, Real Sociedad, unbeaten in their last five matches, will be looking forward to maintaining their fine form to boost their chances for continental football next season when they visit Alaves at Ciudad Deportiva Jose Luis Companon on Wednesday evening.
They had a scare in their last match away to Eibar; a five-goal thriller which they won 3-2 after going behind twice.
They will also be aware of their opponents after losing 4-3 to them in a friendly match in August this year.
On the other hand, the hosts will be banking on their rich form at home, having not lost a match thereat.
They drew one-all in their last match at home against Levante.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid clash with Athletic Club has been postponed after 10 positive cases of Covid-19 were detected in the Madrid team.
The Spanish Football Federation announced that the match will be announced when the situation allows.
In-form Granadilla Tenerife who are riding high this campaign and fancying chances of a top three finish have a date with their bogey side Sevilla away at the Ramon Cisneros Palacios.
The visitors know the threat posed by their opponents, having failed to win on several visits to this venue.
Tenerife will be motivated by their recent form, while Sevilla have been struggling and won only once in their last five matches.
The visitors will also be motivated by the prospects of being tied on points with third-placed Atletico Madrid.
Bottom-placed Villarreal visit Real Betis at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis de Sol on Wednesday evening.
The visitors will be buoyed by their away scoring record and hope that the run will continue, while the hosts have been struggling at home and hope to recapture the form they had when this campaign started.
Both teams suffered defeats in their last matches, with the hosts losing 6-1 to Atletico Madrid and the visitors losing 2-0 at home to Valencia.
The two sides have never met before.
Real Madrid host Sporting Huelva at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano on Wednesday evening.
While Madrid have hit a rich vein of form, Sporting Huelva have managed four consecutive draws going into this match.
The two teams met four times and Real Madrid won three times and drew in their last meeting.
Real Madrid will fancy the opportunity to collect maximum points and move further up the log standings to have another dance in the Champions League next season.
Another struggling side Rayo Vallecano have a trip to the Ciudad Deportiva de Buñol - Campo 1 for a date with Levante on Wednesday evening.
Levante started dominating this fixture in September 2018 and hope to continue with the dominance.
The last match of the day will see Valencia welcome Eibar on Wednesday at the Estadio Antonio Puchades.
Valencia were 2-0 winners against Villarreal at the weekend, while Eibar were unlucky to lose 3-2 to Real Sociedad.
The two teams have met four times and Valencia won all of the fixtures and this places the hosts at an advantage in this fixture.
