Serie A Femminile Matchday 8 Round-Up: Juventus stretches lead, Roma routs Verona and Napoli wins at Lazio

Sampdoria 0 – 1 Juventus

Reigning champions Juventus have stretched their lead on top of the Serie A Femminile table to 24 points following a 1-0 away at Sampdoria on Friday.

A goal from midfielder Valentina Cernoia 15 minutes from time saw the four-time Serie A champions stretch their winning streak to eight matches in as many outings.

Cernoia scored the crucial goal for the Bianconere on an otherwise difficult afternoon in Genoa for the defending champions. The Italian fired a left footed shot from the left side of the box into the bottom right corner of the net after receiving a through ball in the area from full-back Amanda Nildén.

Sampdoria slumped to sixth place on the log with the defeat, leaving Antonio Cincotta’s side with 12 points from four wins and four defeats in eight encounters.

US Sassuolo 4 – 2 ASD Pomigliano

US Sassuolo recorded an emphatic 4-2 win against ASD Pomigliano at home on Sunday.

Midfielder Benedetta Brignoli opened the scoring 14 minutes into the first half. The unmarked midfielder received a cross from forward Haley Bugeja on the left and made no mistake from close range.

Forward Lana Clelland made it 2-0 in the 26th minute with a right footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net from the center of the box.

Defender Danielle Cox made it 2-1 for the visitors seven minutes into the second half. The former Celtic defender received a headed pass from forward Deborah Rinaldi in the box and fired a left footed shot into the high center of the goal.

Brignoli unfortunately made it 2-2 for the visitors with an own goal in the 57th minute after defensive confusion in the Sassuolo box following a corner kick.

Sassuolo midfielder Kamilia Dubcova made it 3-2 from the penalty spot with a right footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net. Pomigliano center back Aivi Luik had brought down Dubcova inside the box.

Forward Sofia Cantore made it 4-2 three minutes from time with a 35-yard screamer into the top left corner of the net.

Sassuolo now have 21 points from seven wins in eight contests and are sitting on second place within three points of log leaders Juventus, while Pomigliano remain on seventh position with 10 points from three wins, one draw and four defeats.

Hellas Verona 1 – 5 Roma

AS Roma routed Hellas Verona 5-1 away at the Sinergy Stadium.

Forward Paloma Lazaro opened the scoring on nine minutes with a heel after receiving a low cross from Benedetta Glionna on the right.

Midfielder Manuela Giugliano made it 2-0 on 27 minutes with lob over the defenders from inside the area.

Brazilian midfielder Andressa Alves made it 3-0 seven minutes later from the penalty spot after a handball in the area.

Forward Annamaria Serturini made it 4-0 on 59 minutes beating Verona goalkeeper Fanny Keizer in the area and placing the shot into the bottom right corner of the goal after having been let loose by Alves.

Lazaro completed her brace on 79 minutes to make it 5-0 for the visitors with a shot from outside the box into the high center of the goal.

Verona striker Lineth Cedeño got a consolation goal for the hosts finding the net two minutes later with a header from the six-yard box into the center of the goal.

Alessandro Spugna’s side now has 16 points from eight contests and are sitting on fourth place on the log while Verona are stuck on 11th place in relegation zone with one point from one draw in as many matches.

AC Milan 1 – 0 Empoli

AC Milan edged Empoli 1-0 at the Centro Sportivo Vismara on Sunday.

A 68th strike from substitute striker Valentina Giacinti made sure Milan stay on third place three points above Roma.

Fiorentina 2 – 3 Inter

Inter recorded their fifth win of the season with a 3-2 win away at Fiorentina on Saturday.

The win took Le Nerazzurre one place up on the log to fifth place.

Inter took a 2-0 lead before the break with forward Tatiana Bonetti opening the scoring on 21 minutes, before midfielder Flaminia Simonetti doubled the lead four minutes later.

Fiorentina midfielder Stephanie Breitner received a red card one minute into first half extra time for a bad tackle on Inter’s Hungarian midfielder Henrietta Csiszar, reducing the hosts to 10 women.

Rita Guarino’s side looked set to take advantage on the red card before Fiorentina forward Daniela Sabatino made it 2-1 just six minutes into the second half. The Italian completed her brace making it 2-2 seven minutes before time, to the shock of the visitors.

82nd minute substitute midfielder Martina Brustia rescued the day for Inter scoring late into second half extra time to hand the visitors a dramatic win away in Florence.

Lazio 3 – 4 Napoli

Napoli beat Lazio 4-3 in a thrilling drop zone clash in Lazio on Sunday.

The match, which produced three penalties, saw Napoli opening the scoring through defender Kaja Erzen 11 minutes into the first half.

Lazio midfielder Adriana Martin made it 1-1 from the penalty spot four minutes later before the hosts took the lead three minutes later with a Rachel Cuschieri strike.

Napoli made it 2-2 through striker Eleonora Goldoni 12 minutes into the second half before Martin made it 3-2 for the hosts again from the penalty spot 10 minutes later.

Goldoni completed her brace, equalizing for the visitors to make it 3-3 on 72 minutes from the penalty spot.

Midfielder Maddalena Porcarelli rescued the day for the visitors with a goal in second half extra time to make it 4-3 as Napoli recorded their second win of the season.

The Naples side sit on 10th place with two wins, one draw and five defeats in eight matches while Lazio are on 12th position with eight defeats in as many encounters.
