Tigres shoot to top as Monterrey edge Querétaro: Liga MX Femenil Week 5 Round-Up

Giants UANL Tigres emerged from Matchday five top of the league after seeing off Atlético San Luis 3-1 at the Estadio Universitarioe on Tuesday.

Serial goalscorer Mia Fishel, substitute Maricarmen Reyes and Stephany Mayor all scored as the Apertura champions collected a crucial full set of points whilst Itzia Tenahua scored the only goal for San Luis.

Tigres have won all their five matches so far and are looking good to challenge strongly for the Clausura title.

The absence of Nigerian Uchenna Kanu was not felt as the hosts easily dispatched of the ninth-placed visitors.

Meanwhile, Monterrey, who led the table going into matchday five, had to summon all their experience in edging Querétaro one-nil at the Cancha El Barrial on Tuesday.

An own goal by Jazmín Enrigue ensured maximum points for the Rayadas, who have also won their first five matches.

Both Tigres and Monterrey are now locked on 15 points.

Club América kept abreast with the leading duo with a 2-0 victory over Club León on Monday.

Two early goals from Aurélie Kaci and Sarah Luebbert were all América needed to subdue Leon.

América have dropped points in only one match so far this season whilst León are on a poor run of form having lost their last four matches.

Pachuca emerged the biggest winners of the week after hammering Santos Laguna 6-0 at the Hildago Stadium on Tuesday.

Woman-of-the-match Charlyn Corral grabbed a hattrick as well as an assist to propel her side to the big win. Alice Soto, Mariana Munguía and former Barcelona forward Jennifer Hermoso were also on the scoresheet.

Mazatlán finally got their first victory of the season with a hard fought 1-0 victory away to Tijuana on Monday.

Yuliana Mora’s 14th minute strike was all they needed to subdue the hosts.

It was the second match that Tijuana have lost this season.

Club Necaxa remained firmly rooted to the bottom of the table after losing 2-0 to Puebla away on Sunday.

Necaxa are now the only team in the league yet to put any points on the board. On the other hand, Puebla were celebrating their first victory of the season.

Chivas Guadalajara are beginning to feel the absence of their top scorer Alicia Cervantes after firing blanks in a nil-all draw against lowly Deportivo Toluca on Saturday.

Chivas won their first four matches but struggled on matchday five ending the week in fourth position whilst Toluca finished the week in 17th.

Cruz Azul failed to take advantage of playing at home after a one-all stalemate against UNAM Pumas at the Instalaciones La Noria Cancha 1 on Saturday.

Azul lie seventh on the log with nine points while Pumas are in 12th position with four points.

Juárez quickly put behind themselves last weekend’s loss by posting an important 2-1 victory away to Atlas on Saturday.

Miah Zuazua and Jasmine Casarez scored to hand Juarez their fourth win in five matches whilst Carolina Venegas scored the solitary goal for Atlas.

Atlas, on the other hand, are hovering in mid-table in 10th place after losing their second match on the trot.
